The Slovenian construction companies in other Yugoslav republics recruit workers with the promise of good pay, but upon arriving in Slovenia, the new environment is anything but welcoming. The film realistically and uncompromisingly portrays the conditions in which the workers live, as well as the financial and personal challenges they face in a foreign and hostile environment. It provides a sharp critique of the local mentality, where newcomers are not accepted, despite the fact that the local economy heavily relies on them.

"Babič depicted all of this with a distinctly naturalistic reconstruction of the seasonal workers' lives in filthy barracks, while the danger of succumbing to various temptations is particularly embodied in the character of Ahmet, torn away from his Bosnian roots and, ultimately, from existential meaning." - Peter Stanković
