Italy, early 20th century. A young woman, Agata, gives birth to a stillborn child. She learns of a place in the mountains where the stillborn are revived for one breath, allowing them to be baptized and thus their souls saved from limbo. She sets out on a dangerous journey toward the mountain sanctuary that promises a miracle. Along the way, she meets a lonely boy, Ris, who offers to help her.
